England's legendary batter Joe Root had a torrid start to the New Zealand Test series, as he departed for a four-ball duck in the opening encounter at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. In response to New Zealand's first innings total of 348 runs, England had a shaky start to their innings, losing Zak Crawley and Jacob Bethell in quick succession.

So, considering England were two down, they expected their best batter Joe Root to bail them out of trouble. However, the stylish right-handed batter endured a failure, being dismissed for a duck as Nathan Smith's second victim.

Having said that, Joe Root has had a stellar international career, scripting many memorable victories for England with his stupendous performances. The English maestro is one of the most successful batters of all time and has amassed the highest runs for his country across three formats.

Can Joe Root Break Sachin Tendulkar's Record?

India's legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar occupies the top spot in the standings, having slammed 34357 international runs for his country. So, Root is a whopping 14189 runs away from breaking Tendulkar's record. Although he can go past Tendulkar in Tests, his chances of surpassing the God of Cricket's overall tally seem bleak at the moment.
