Babar Azam is arguably the most popular cricket in Pakistan and is known for his consistency, especially in the 50-over format. He was expected to make an impact in the first ODI of the tri-series as well, but the batter disappointed on his promotion as an opener and could muster just 10 runs off 23 balls.
Pakistan are chasing 331 after Glenn Phillips' 74-ball century dismantled Pakistan pacers at the death. Pakistan needed a good start and they did get it courtesy of Fakhar Zaman. Babar Azam though scored just 10 runs in the 52-run opening stand and on the last ball of Bracewell's first over, he lost his wicket.
Babar Azam Disappoints Fans As Opener In Lahore
It was a flatter delivery turning into middle and Babar Azam tried to work it towards the leg side. He hit it uppishly and the centurion of the first innings, turned superman again and grabbed a stunning diving catch to leave Gaddafi stadium shocked. The fans were clearly disappointed and the reaction of one girl sitting with a worried look summed up the mood in Pakistan.
The wicket was a big blow to the home team, but Fakhar Zaman is batting beautifully in his comeback match and he would have to bat deep. Pakistan's middle order also needs to show more application and bat with intent and it would be interesting to see how they deal with the pressure infront of their home crowd.
