Hardik Pandya will miss India's three-match T20I series against Afghanistan (X.com)
There have been plenty of speculations about Hardik Pandya’s availability for the coming months ever since the star all-rounder sustained an injury during India’s World Cup 2023 clash against Bangladesh. Now, as per the latest report by Sports Tak, the 30-year-old will miss the Men in Blue’s upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, scheduled to begin on January 12.
Earlier, there were multiple reports that Hardik would be fit before the Afghanistan series and was expected to lead the side. Before that, many reputed media outlets, including NDTV, reported that he is doubtful for IPL 2024, where the star man is thought to lead Mumbai Indians, succeeding Rohit Sharma.
Needless to say, Hardik’s participation in the Afghanistan T20Is is not as important as his participation in the next showpiece event, T20 World Cup 2024. There, he is one of the contenders to lead the side, alongside his MI teammates Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah.
Therefore, the BCCI is unlikely to take a risk by bringing Hardik early, and they would rather suggest that he should directly participate in the IPL 2024 for preparations for the grandest event.
Hardik suffered an ankle injury while bowling against Bangladesh in the 2023 World Cup, and since then, he has been out of action.
