Hardik Pandya will return to playing duties via the forthcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and take part in the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), reported the Times of India.

In a positive latest report, the premier India and MI allrounder is on the right track to make his return next month via the set of T20Is versus the Afghans at home and will be available to captain the five-time champion franchise in IPL 2024.

A source privy to the developments told TOI amidst speculations that Pandya has "completely recovered" from the ankle injury, which has forced him out of the playing action since midway through the ICC World Cup 2023 league stage.

Pandya To Comeback Via AFG T20Is

Pandya twisted his leg while trying to save a ball on his own bowling in Pune against Bangladesh and couldn't recover in time for the remaining matches before also being ruled out of the five T20Is at home versus Australia and the ongoing trip to South Africa.

"He has completely recovered from his ankle injury. He has been training every day," a source close to the developments told TOI, contrary to the reports which had circulated earlier on Saturday (December 23), stating Pandya might not even comeback in time for IPL 2024.

"He should definitely be fit for the IPL, and possibly the Afghanistan T20Is. Hardik is fit and fine. In fact, he has been working out daily. All the talk about him going on to miss the IPL is just rumour. There are still almost four months left for IPL-2024, so anything, at this moment, is just speculation," the source added.

Pandya had recently posted two videos on Instagram of him, in one of which the cricketer was even seen training in the gym and raising hopes of his comeback. The 30-year-old has been in the news in this phase for mixed reasons. While the untimely injury has certainly raised doubts about his India captaincy fate, MI gave him a huge lift by appointing him as their new skipper.
