Afghanistan’s dynamic opening duo, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Ibrahim Zadran, have been in phenomenal form in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, leading their team to impressive performances.

The pair made history by becoming the first to register four 50+ partnerships in a single T20 World Cup edition.

Gurbaz and Zadran's Record-Breaking Partnerships

During their Super 8 encounter against Bangladesh in Kingstown, St. Vincent on June 25, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim  Zadran continued their stellar run, scoring a 59-run partnership.

This follows their remarkable stands of 154 against Uganda, 103 against New Zealand, and 118 against Australia, bringing their total to 467 runs from 7 matches at an average of 66.71.

Their consistent performances at the top of the order have been instrumental in Afghanistan's success in the tournament.

Earlier in the tournament, the pair also achieved the milestone of becoming just the second duo to register three 100-run partnerships in a single T20 World Cup edition.

The match against Bangladesh, however, highlighted the challenges Afghanistan faces despite strong starts. After Zadran's dismissal following their 59-run stand, Afghanistan struggled to maintain momentum, managing only 115/5 in their 20 overs as Bangladesh bowlers tightened their grip.

However, their bowlers showed nerves of steel and eventually won the match by 8 runs (DLS) to clinch a place in the T20 World Cup semis.
