Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of IPL 2024 (X.com)

Gujarat Titans have signed Sandeep Warrier as a replacement for Mohammed Shami, who has been ruled out of the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have roped in Kwena Maphaka to replace Dilshan Madushanka, who recently picked up an injury during Sri Lanka’s series in Bangladesh.

While Sandeep Warrier is a well-known name in India’s domestic circuit, having recently played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Kwena Maphaka is a 17-year-old South African, who played against India in February during their meeting at the Under-19 World Cup.

Shami, the veteran pacer of India, recently underwent surgery for his right heel problem and is currently in a rehabilitation period. His replacement, Sandeep Warrier, will join the IPL 2022 champions at his base price of INR 50 lakh.

The IPL website has confirmed that Madushanka, who was believed to be out of the first part of the IPL 2024, will not be playing the entire competition. He will be replaced by Maphaka, who was named Player of the Tournament in the recent U-19 World Cup.

While Warrier has played five matches in the IPL across three seasons, this will be Maphaka’s maiden season in the competition.
