In a significant development, Nottinghamshire has roped in Fazalhaq Farooqi and Ben Lister as replacements for Shaheen Afridi for the upcoming T20 Blast season. Notably, Shaheen will miss the competition owing to national commitments with the Pakistan team.

The left-arm speedster played a pivotal role for the Notts last season, consistently chipping in with early wickets with the new ball in the power play. In his absence, the club expects their recently signed duo to contribute significantly in the mega event.

Regarding Farooqi and Lister's selection, Nottinghamshire's head coach, Peter Moores, explained the decision was taken in order to have some quality left-arm pacers in the squad.

"Given the success Shaheen had with us last year, bringing in left-arm seam options again made sense. It creates a different set of challenges for batters. In Ben and Fazalhaq, we have proven wicket-takers who can make an impact on the game in crucial moments, which is what we are after," Moores was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

Regarding Nottinghamshire, they finished at the fourth position in the group-stage standings before losing their quarter-final encounter to Somerset, who eventually lifted the trophy.

Afridi emerged as their wrecker-in-chief with the ball, scalping 22 wickets at an impressive strike rate of 14.86.

The group stage of T20 Blast 2024 will be conducted between May 19 and July 19, with Warwickshire taking on Leicestershire in the first game at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
