On the 5th of August, the tragic news of the passing of the esteemed England cricketer Graham Thorpe sent shockwaves and left the cricketing set-up in shambles.

Although the cause of his unexpected departure was not revealed at first, his beloved wife, Amanda Thorpe, has now come forward to share the reason behind the untimely death of the 55-year-old, a loss deeply felt by all.

The Surrey-born player, Graham Thorpe, who had played 100 Test matches and 82 ODIs for England, was suffering from depression and anxiety for a very long time. In a heartbreaking revelation, he took his own life, as shared by his wife.

In a recent interview with The Times, she disclosed the gut-wrenching reason and said:

“Despite having a wife and two daughters whom he loved and who loved him, he did not get better. He was so unwell in recent times and he really did believe that we would be better off without him and we are devastated that he acted on that and took his own life."

Thorpe is survived by his wife and children Henry, Amelia Kitty and Emma.

Numerous tributes have poured in since his passing, including that of former England captain Michael Atherton, who was deeply shaken by the loss of his dear friend and teammate.

It has been understood that a ceremony to remember Thorpe will be held in Farnham over the weekend.
