In a shocking news, former England cricketer, Graham Thorpe passed away, aged 55 on Monday. A veteran of 100 Tests, Thorpe was a key member of the England team during his era, and was one of the most prolific batters of his time.

Apart from being a wonderful cricketer, Thorpe was also England's batting coach, during a period when the Three Lions were going through a turmoil. Graham Thorpe's biggest assignment as the batting coach was the infamous 2021 tour of India.

When the late great Thorpe praised Kohli

The World Test Championship (2019-21) finale place was up for grabs as England headed to India for their final frontier. At that time, Virat Kohli was the Test captain, and was at the pinnacle of his power. Thorpe, an admirer of greatness, didn't shy away from praising Kohli, and called him 'one of the best' ahead of the series.

"We know that he is a fantastic player and he has shown that for many years now. Virat is in one of that batting orders which understands home conditions very well," Thorpe said.

England started off the Test series on front-foot, winning the Chennai Test. However, the hosts bounced back with three Test victories on a trot to seal their place in the WTC finals. The series is also famous for the pitches produced, which came under heavy scrutiny.

As for Virat Kohli, the former India captain scored 172 runs in 4 Tests, at an average of 28.67.
