Headingley Cricket Ground Pitch Report: Is The Surface Batting Or Bowling Friendly?

In the above mentioned table, the number of wickets taken by pacers in the last 10 Tests at Headingley is 82% which shows how dominant they have been at this venue. Historically, Headingley is a graveyard for the batters with seam bowlers enjoying their outing. The pitch has the ability to offer movement and also it has variable bounce on offer.

Plus, the overcast conditions makes batting a bit challenging. However, this time around, there is a catch. It hasn't rained in Headingley since February and the weather is hot and humid. As per the pitch curator, the pitch will favour the seam bowlers for the first two days but as the game progresses into the third day and the sun beats down, the surface will get dry and it will assist the spinners.

Hence, this could be the first time in a long time that teams will go in with two spinners in their playing XI. Expect the toss winning captain to bat first, and absorb the early pressure.
