As the suspended IPL 2025 season hangs in balance, Delhi Capitals (DC) face dual challenges, the uncertain return of star pacer Mitchell Starc and a logistical tussle over replacement signing Mustafizur Rahman.
Amidst this tussle, Mitchell Starc was found annoyed by a local in the airport where the star was found visibly irked by the behaviour of the stranger. A video captured Starc's encounter with the stranger.
Starc’s Frustrated Exit Goes Viral
A viral video captured Starc at Delhi’s airport departure terminal, visibly irked by a vlogger’s attempts to film him. The vlogger was found saying, "Guys, humare samne khade hai IPL ka best khiladi, Mitchell Starc (Guys, the best player of IPL is just in front of us, Mitchell Starc)"
The clip, shared widely on social media, showed the Australian speedster’s abrupt exit following the league’s suspension due to India-Pakistan border tensions.
Starc, who joined DC in a high-profile deal, had left India mid-season, with no intention of a comeback. Meanwhile, the franchise confirmed opener Jake Fraser-McGurk’s exit after a dismal run, replacing him with Bangladesh’s left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman.
DC Navigates 'Mustafizur' Problem
However, the move hit a snag when Mustafizur flew to Dubai for Bangladesh’s T20I series against UAE. If he features in both matches, he’ll miss DC’s clash against Gujarat Titans on May 20.
"The JSW and GMR co-owned franchise Delhi Capitals today announced the signing of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk, who will be unavailable for the remainder of the TATA IPL 2025 season," the franchise stated in a release, as quoted by NDTV.
The Delhi Capitals (DC) are currently in talks with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to secure an early release for pacer Mustafizur Rahman. As per IPL regulations, the BCB receives a share of the player’s contract fee, making such negotiations financially significant.
