On Tuesday, June 18, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) interviewed Gautam Gambhir for India's head coach position as Rahul Dravid will step down from the prestigious role following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Gambhir was the frontrunner and fans' favourite when BCCI invited applications for the role of Indian head coach as he guided KKR to their 3rd IPL title in IPL 2024. Earlier, there was a suspense whether Gambhir had applied for the position or not.

In the latest events, there were reports that he is the sole runner for the head coach role and would fly to Mumbai for the interview scheduled for today by CAC. However, News18 reported that the former India opener faces competition to succeed Rahul Dravid, as veteran WV Raman has also been interviewed by the CAC for the head coach position.

They also stated that there is an overseas candidate as well who will have the interview on Wednesday, June 19.

Notably, WV Raman is a former cricketer and also a former head coach of India women's cricket team from 2018-21.

CAC comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshana Naik. CAC member Malhotra took the interview where Gambhir participated virtually. Meanwhile, WV Raman gave the interview in person and the panel found it impressive.

"Gambhir had a virtual interview but Raman’s presentation was very impressive and detailed. The CAC is likely to interview an overseas candidate tomorrow. Gambhir has the edge but Raman’s presentation was very thorough,” said a BCCI official.

The reports also mentioned that Gambhir has another round of interview tomorrow. Also, it is to be seen who will be the overseas candidate.
