The high-pace T20 format in cricket has always been cruel to bowlers. Historically, in the T20 internationals, bowlers often face the daunting task of containing aggressive batters who look to score quickly and aggressively, especially in the death overs.

Despite their best efforts, some bowlers have found themselves on the receiving end of particularly expensive overs.

Meanwhile, here we take a look at the top five most expensive overs ever registered in T20I's history.

Most Runs Off An Over In Men's T20Is

1) Yuvraj Singh Vs Stuart Broad- 36 Runs, Durban, 2007

Stuart Broad holds the infamous record for conceding the most runs in an over in T20I history. The iconic incident happened during the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 against India. Yuvraj Singh unleashed a barrage of six consecutive sixes off Broad's over, making it a total of 36 runs.

This onslaught was triggered by a verbal battle, which fueled Yuvraj as he unleashed carnage on Broad instead. Meanwhile, a young Stuart Broad was left in disbelief, and despite trying everything to contain Yuvraj Singh, the Indian all-rounder breathed fire.

Not only did India end up winning the game by 18 runs, Yuvraj Singh also registered fastest fifty in T20Is and it was the beginning of a prolific cricketing journey for the power hitter.

2) Kieron Pollard Vs Akila Dananjaya - 36 runs, Coolidge, 2021

Akila Dananjaya also joined the list with a 36-run over against West Indies in March 2021. In a bilateral game between West Indies and Sri Lanka, Kieron Pollard matched Yuvraj Singh's feat by hitting six sixes off Akila Dananjaya shortly after the spinner took a hat-trick in the same game. Pollard's onslaught came in Coolidge, making it a memorable yet painful over for Dananjaya.

It was a game dominated by West Indies from all fronts. After restricting SL to 131 runs, West Indies were rattled by Akila's hat-trick until Pollard decided to invoke his inner best. On challenging conditions, Kieron Pollard not only played a match-winning knock but also trashed Dananjaya to script history in T20Is.

3) Dipendra Singh Airee Vs Kamran Khan - 36 Runs, Al Amerat, 2024

In an ACC Men's T20 Cup, Dipendra Singh Airee of Nepal recreated Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard's iconic moment to slam six sixes in an over off Qatar's Kamran Khan. Nepal was reduced to 174/7 when Airee attacked Kamran Khan in the final over of the first innings.

He took Kamran on to smoke 6 sixes in a row to finish his knock with 64 runs from 21 deliveries. Airee had a memorable game as he also picked up two wickets in the chase and scripted history by scoring joint most run off an over in T20I history.

In the final group game of the 2024 T20 World Cup, Azmatullah Omarzai of Afghanistan bore the brunt of Nicholas Pooran's onslaught to register as the joint most expensive over in T20I history.

West Indies were heading for a big score in the first innings, with Pooran leading the charge. In the fourth over of the powerplay, Nicholas Pooran slammed a six and a four of the first two balls before the second delivery was deemed illegal.

Pooran fetched 5 extra runs in wides before hitting 2 fours and as many sixes to finish with a 36 runs over.

Zimbabwe lower order finisher Ryan Burl rescued his team in a series deciding game by hitting Nasum Ahmed of Bangladesh for 34 runs in the 15th over of the first innings. From 67/6, Burl shifted gears to guide Zimbabwe to a competitive total, and Nasum ended up being his favourite target.

Ryan Burl charged on Nasum Ahmed with four sixes, a boundary, and then again a six to fetch 34 runs off the 15th over. Owing to Burl's brutal assault, Zimbabwe registered a par 156 runs total and won the game by 10 runs to upset Bangladesh in the three-game series.
