In a surprising development, Bismah Maroof, one of the most high-profile Pakistani cricketers, announced her retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.
The former Pakistan captain has retired after a 17-year successful cricketing career. She is one of the most notable names in women's cricket.
In ODIs, Maroof finished as the leading run-scorer for her side with 3369 runs in 136 ODIs, an average of 29.55, and 21 half-centuries. In T20Is, she had 2893 runs in 140 games, 12 fifties, and an average of 27.55.
Maroof debuted for Pakistan in a one-day international against India in 2006. In 2021, she took a break from International cricket to give birth to her first child.
"I have decided to retire from the game I love the most. It has been an incredible journey, filled with challenges, victories, and unforgettable memories. I want to express my gratitude to my family, who has supported me throughout my cricketing journey, from the very beginning until now. She was quoted as saying via a PCB release on Thursday.
The 32-year-old cricketer has captained Pakistan in 96 internationals (62 T20I and 34 ODI). She was also a part of the Pakistani contingent in eight Women's T20 World Cup editions, leading them in 2020 and 2023.
