In the ongoing Indian Premier League, there have been several controversial umpiring and the fans and former cricketers have scrutinised the umpires and raised questions regarding the downfall in the level of umpiring.

In this Article, let's take a look at the most controversial umpiring in the ongoing Indian Premier League so far starting from Virat Kohli's no-ball, to Suyash Prabhudessai- Debatable Four Or Six. 

Virat Kohli's Controversial Dismissal Vs KKR 

In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the encounter between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 21, 2024, at Eden Gardens was a highly-anticipated and nail-biting fixture. Shreyas Iyer & Co won the match by a mere margin of 1 run. 

Virat Kohli's controversial dismissal against KKR was the major talking point about the match. Facing KKR bowler Harshit Rana, Virat Kohli was standing outside the crease and was convinced enough that the ball was above the waist height. 

The ball tracking suggested that the ball would have dipped had the Indian star batter been within the crease. But the third umpire ruled that the RCB batsman was outside his crease and the delivery would later dip and be below the waistline, making it a legal ball and further giving it 'Out'. 



Suyash Prabhudessai- Debatable Four Or Six?

In the same match against KKR, the on-field umpires faced another backlash regarding another disputed decision involving a possible maximum denied to RCB. 

The duo of in-form Dinesh Karthik and Suyash Prabhudessai were on the crease chasing the target of 223. In the 17th over of the match, Prabhudessai faced KKR spinner Varun Chakaravarthy's delivery and smashed a six that headed towards the boundary line, raising a question of whether it was a four or six.

The umpires present on the field without consulting the third umpire gave it a four raising questions among fans and former cricketers regarding the decisive decision by the umpires.  

Sunil Narine - No Ball Declared Fair Ball 

In the same match against KKR, umpires faced another counterblast involving a no-ball controversy with went unnoticed by the on-field in an over by Sunil Narine. 

Later on the fans and former players noticed that Sunil Narine bowled a no-ball and became the talk of the town and bashed the umpires


Prithvi Shaw's Controversial Dismissal

In the 41st match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the catch taken by Noor Ahmad of Prithvi Shaw was a controversial catch and grabbed the limelight as fans and the cricket fraternity raised questions regarding the catch whether it was a clean one or it bumped ahead. 

GT bowler Sandeep Warrier was bowling the fourth over and in the second delivery he bowled a shorter length delivery and forced Shaw to play a pull shot. 

Shaw missed time the ball and Noor Ahmad caught the ball at deep square leg diving in front to take the catch. The on-field umpire took the help of a third umpire and Shaw was given out

After the decision fans and former cricketers criticised the decision stating that umpiring decisions and standards have gone down.
