In the latest development, the Pakistan cricket team is set to bring back forgotten batter, Irfan Khan Niazi, in their T20I setup for the upcoming series against South Africa. After a rather disappointing Asia Cup campaign, where they lost to India in the finals, the team management is set to make wholesome changes, and reportedly, one of them is to bring back the middle-order batter.

He last played for Pakistan in March 2025 during the away T20I tour of New Zealand, and since then, the batter has been out of reckoning in the T20Is. However, with the Men in Green having batting woes, the selectors have reportedly decided to bring him back in the setup for the upcoming series.

According to reports by Geo News, Irfan Khan Niazi might not directly slot into the playing XI, but will be in the scheme of things.

Underperformer to be sacked from T20Is

The report also stated that underperformer from the Asia Cup 2025, Hussain Talat, is set to face selectors’ wrath and will be snubbed from the T20Is for the South Africa series. The batter had only one decent outing in the marquee event, and it came against Sri Lanka. He failed in both game against India, and couldn’t do anything in the finals.

Despite getting chances to showcase his worth, Talat failed to capitalise on the opportunity provided to him.

Moreover, apart from Talat, another player is reportedly set to face the T2OI snub - Khushdil Shah. Surprisingly, the all-rounder was picked in the Asia Cup squad, but he did not get a single game to perform, as he now faces the axe from the game’s shortest format.

Reportedly, the Pakistan selectors will reveal the squad for the South Africa T20Is after the Test series ends between the two nations.
