West Indies cricket is going through a tough time, but the Delhi Test is turning out to be a confidence-boosting affair for the Men in Maroon. Firstly, John Campbell became the first West Indian cricketer to score a century in 2025, and now Shai Hope has also ended his hundred drought after eight long years.
Shai Hope last scored a century in Leeds against England in 2017. In that Test, he scored a century in both the innings in tough conditions, but could not carry that confidence forward and struggled in whites.
Thus, now this breakthrough knock after eight years and 45 days, has made him the West Indies batter with the biggest gap between two centuries in Test cricket. Earlier, Gordon Greendige held this record with a gap of 6 years and 15 days.

Shai Hope is also now the batter who has the gap of most innings between two centuries in Test cricket. Shai Hope has scored a century after 58 Test innings, and he has broken the record of Jermaine Blackwood, who had the gap of 47 innings.
Chris Gayle also features in the list with a gap of 46 Test innings between two centuries. Dwayne Bravo had a gap of 44 innings. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, another West Indian legend had a gap of 41 innings between two centuries very early in his career from 1998 to 2002.

Thus, Shai Hope has ended a long wait for many West Indies fans. He would now be hoping that he shows the same consistency in Test cricket which he is known for in white-ball formats.
