Aaqib Javed’s Revealed His Game Plan for Pakistan Cricket
Shedding light on Pakistan’s plans, Aaqib Javed made it clear that the ODI format is the priority.
"Our main focus at the moment is on ODI cricket ahead of the Champions Trophy," Aaqib said.
With the Champions Trophy just a few months away, Aaqib is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the team is in top shape. When it comes to T20Is, Aaqib has a different approach. He’s ready to shake things up and give fresh faces a chance to shine.
“You'll see changes in the T20I format. We plan to give new players chances in the Zimbabwe series," he said. Aaqib believes this is the perfect time to strengthen Pakistan’s bench by testing young talent in the shortest format.
"If you don't give new players chances, you'll never get the opportunity to improve your bench strength," Aaqib added, sending a clear message to the youngsters.
Fakhar Zaman’s Return On The Cards
One name that has been creating quite a buzz in Pakistan cricket is of seasoned opener Fakhar Zaman. After being dropped from the squad against Australia, Fakhar is now inching closer to making a comeback. Aaqib addressed the elephant in the room and shared updates on Fakhar’s situation.
"Fakhar is a match-winner; he has performed for Pakistan for many years. He was having some fitness problems,” Aaqib explained.
The coach also hinted that once Fakhar proves his fitness, he’ll be back in contention.
"We are in communication with Fakhar. Whenever he gets fit, the selection committee will definitely consider him for selection."
Zimbabwe Tour Kicks Things Off
Pakistan’s journey starts with the Zimbabwe tour, where three ODIs and three T20Is are on the cards. With Aaqib’s plan to test new players in T20Is and focus on a settled ODI squad, the series will be an exciting test for both seasoned players and young guns.
