Jason Roy is set to miss the forthcoming IPL 2024 season for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The English batting star has been on the road since January this year, when he turned up for KKR’s ILT20 subsidiary Abu Dhabi Knight Riders.

Moreover, the 33-year-old is currently in Pakistan as part of Quetta Gladiators unit for the PSL 2024 season.

Prominent T20 freelancer Jason Roy opted himself out of this year’s IPL 2024 season for the KKR franchise. Roy, who has been on the road since January through ILT20 and PSL 2024 events, stated that he will be spending his break with his family back home instead.

The 33-year-old Englishman also added that he will continue to support his KKR teammates from the sidelines during their IPL 2024 quest in India. In an official statement released by the KKR, Jason Roy said:

“After much consideration, I have made the tough decision to miss this year’s IPL. Having been away since the start of January I need to get back to my family and have a refresh before a very busy year ahead. I will be supporting my friends and teammates at KKR throughout the tournament and wish them the best of luck.”

Jason Roy was acquired by the KKR franchise back in IPL 2023. Turning up for his side in eight matches, the belligerent top-order batter listed 285 runs in the tournament at a staggering strike-rate of over 151.

The cricketer was subsequently retained by the franchise during the IPL 2024 retention phase in November 2023.

The KKR management has already announced Phil Salt as Roy’s replacement for the forthcoming season.

The 33-year-old, currently in Pakistan for the PSL 2024 season, played the last of his 185 internationals for England over a year ago in Chattogram against Bangladesh. He was one of the integral members of England’s triumphant World Cup 2019 squad.
