Following a four-year absence, Quetta Gladiators clinch a spot in the PSL playoffs with a thrilling final-ball triumph against Qalandars. In a tense moment, requiring 4 runs from just 1 ball, Wasim Jr. of Gladiators delivered a stunning six, prompting coach Shane Watson to draw parallels between him and the West Indian powerhouse, Andre Russell.

The former Aussie all-rounder expressed his aspiration to develop Wasim Jr. into Pakistan's equivalent of Russell.

For years, Pakistan has been lacking a genuine fast-bowling all-rounder. Since the days of Abdul Razzaq in the late 1990s & early 2000's, there has been a persistent search for a high-quality all-rounder who can bowl pace. According to Shane Watson, who himself was considered one of the most complete all-rounders of all time, Wasim Jr. could potentially fill this void.

Impressed by Wasim's abilities, Watson commented,

"We've been talking to Mohammad Wasim Jr. since the first game about being as still as possible. He's got amazing hand-eye coordination and power, so he just needs to stand still and trust that he can smash it."

Aware of the significance of powerful hitters who can also contribute with the ball in shorter formats of cricket, Watson didn't hesitate to draw comparisons with Dre Russ.

"We've been talking to him about turning himself into the Pakistani Andre Russell with the skill and power he's got with the bat. We already know what he's got with the ball, and he's got amazing athleticism which we've seen in the field," he added.

Multan Sultans currently lead the table, followed by Islamabad United in second place. Peshawar Zalmi holds the third position, with a game in hand against Karachi Kings, who are already out of contention.
