Faf du Plessis may be edging closer to 41 but when it comes to leadership in T20 cricket, he has still got it. The Texas Super Kings skipper added another feather to his already-stacked cap by overtaking Daren Sammy on the all-time list of most T20 wins as captain after TSK rolled over the Seattle Orcas at the Oakland Coliseum on Monday.
Faf du Plessis Surpasses Daren Sammy In All-Time T20 Wins List
With this third win in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 season, Faf du Plessis now has 106 wins in T20s as skipper, leaving behind Sammy’s 105 and slotting himself neatly at No. 3 on the all-time leaderboard.
With this milestone, du Plessis now trails only MS Dhoni (193 wins) and Rohit Sharma (143 wins), both white-ball icons.
Faf's journey as a leader has spanned across South Africa, the IPL, CPL, SA20 and now MLC. No matter the jersey, the Protean veteran knows how to lead a T20 side.
While his bat hasn't done too much talking in IPL 2025 or this MLC season so far, Faf’s captaincy has been spot-on. He has been sharp with his bowling changes, solid with his field placements and continues to be one of the fittest blokes on the field, diving around like a man half his age.
Even when TSK could only muster 153 on a tricky Oakland track, Faf marshalled his troops brilliantly. With the likes of David Warner, Heinrich Klaasen, Sikandar Raza, Aaron Jones and Kyle Mayers in the Seattle Orcas' line-up, things could have gone south quickly. But the Super Kings didn't let up. They applied pressure from ball one and bowled Orcas out for just 60.
Reaching 200 T20 matches as captain is no joke. Doing it while staying relevant across leagues, continents and over a decade of franchise cricket? That is Faf du Plessis for you: grit, class and never backing down from a fight.
He might not always be in the headlines with the bat but his name is etched in the books now, right behind two of the greatest to ever do it. And with MLC 2025 still in full swing, it wouldn’t be a surprise if captain Faf adds a few more wins to his name.
