You know a moment has gone viral when even the sharpest minds in cricket can’t help but take a jab at it. That is exactly what happened when Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain roasted Dinesh Karthik on a recent podcast, all thanks to a certain timeout conversation he had with Virat Kohli during the IPL 2025 final.
Atherton, Hussain Tease Karthik Over Timeout Advice To Kohli
Karthik, who served as mentor and batting coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) this season, got dragged into a hilarious moment as the two English legends decided to have a little fun at his expense.
It all started when Atherton pointed out a moment from the final where Karthik was seen chatting with Kohli during a timeout.
"Before the final I thought if RCB won you’d be right up front with the trophy and that turned out to be spot on. Kohli was at the back but you guys won,” Atherton quipped with a grin as quoted by UC Cricket.
But then came the real dig:
“You were talking to Kohli during the timeout, and next over, he got out. What exactly did you say to him?”
Dinesh Karthik, caught off guard, could only laugh nervously.
“This is probably the toughest question I’ve faced in a podcast. I can handle the first part but for the second I’m trying to remember without freaking out,” he joked.
Atherton And Hussain Double Down
Atherton didn’t pull any punches either.
“I was thinking what could he possibly tell one of the best batsmen ever? And whatever it was, it clearly didn’t work since he got out next over” he said, tongue firmly in cheek.
Karthik tried to steer clear of giving a real answer, probably because he genuinely didn’t remember. That’s when Nasser Hussain jumped in with a killer punch:
“It’s the first time you haven’t had an answer. You’re quiet!”
Meanwhile, to his credit, DK took all the trolling in good spirit much like he handled pressure situations during his playing days.
RCB Finally Broke The Curse
Despite all the laughs, let’s not forget that Virat Kohli and RCB ended their title drought and finally lifted the IPL trophy for the first time in their history. And yes, Karthik was right up front during the celebrations.
