The inevitable has happened and Pakistan's best batter, Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to a knee injury. The star player got injured during the first over of the day as he chased a delivery struck by Will Young and after which, he felt some discomfort and was taken off the field.

Why Fakhar was ruled out of Champions Trophy?

The batter returned to the field after the 12th over and stayed for three overs before he went back to the pavilion once again. In the 33rd over he returned back and stayed for the rest of the Kiwi innings, but due to the time he was off the field, the Pakistan player had to face a penalty and wasn't allowed to open the batting.

However, he came out to bat at number 4 and looked a pale shadow of his aggressive best as he struggled at the crease and couldn't. time the ball properly as the batter looked in discomfort and was dismissed for 24.

A day after the game, Fakhar tweeted that he couldn't recover from his injury and was ruled out of the entire Champions Trophy. But here is the catch, was PCB responsible for Fakhar beging ruled out?.

Why PCB is responsible for Fakhar's injury

Pakistan needed 321 to win the contest and they were too slow to start as Babar Azam and his new opening partner, Saud Shakeel struggled for runs. As a result, when Pakistan lost two wickets, Pakistan pressed panic button and sent in an injured Fakhar to bat, who couldn't even run properly.

It was difficult for him to move his feet as the batter was in pain and it also affected Babar's game as the batter failed to take quick singles.

  • Instead of sending an injured batter, Pakistan had the luxury to send in Agha Salman, who was the man in form for them. Plus, they had Khushdil Shah in their ranks, and even he should have gone in before Fakhar Zaman. A fully-fit batter is way better than a half-fit player, and this is where the injury jeopardise his Champions Trophy journey.
  • The injury severed as he walked out to bat and as a result, he was ruled out of the tournament. Pakistan should have saved their best player for the next big clash against India, instead, they sacrificed him ahead of the likes of Agha Salman and Khushdil Shah.
