KL Rahul led the Indian side to defeat South Africa by 78 runs in the final ODI to clinch the three-game ODI series by 2-1.

In an absolutely dominating show, the visitors posted 296 runs on board in the first innings, owing to an extraordinary ton from Sanju Samson. While Proteas looked strong at some stage, Arshdeep rattled the hosts to claim four wickets.

Having said that, the win extended KL Rahul’s marvelous record as the captain of the Indian cricket team. Rahul was asked to lead the ODI side for this series after the seniors opted out.

While the task to challenge the South Africans at the latter’s home turf was tough, Rahul used his remarkable leadership skills to emerge victorious.

Sanjay Manjrekar Equates KL Rahul To MS Dhoni

That being said, Rahul’s sharpness and game awareness left former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar in awe. Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Manjrekar applauded Rahul’s composed demeanor on the field.

He added that KL seems extremely relaxed and comfortable in the leadership role. His captaincy experience in IPL has helped him evolve a lot over the years.

Not only that, Manjrekar believes that KL Rahul has become an expert in DRS. One does not see the wicketkeeper make too many mistakes with his awareness behind the stumps.

Interestingly, the former cricketer likened Rahul’s DRS instinct to that of Indian legendary captain MS Dhoni.

"These days, when you see KL Rahul on the ground, he looks very relaxed and in a good mind space. He captained as expected. He looks comfortable in the leadership role. He has led a lot in the IPL, in a Test match in South Africa and in one-day matches as well. You can expect KL Rahul not to make any big mistake. He is an expert in DRS. His instinct is equal to MS Dhoni,” he said.

Comparisons to MS Dhoni carry significant weight in Indian cricket, as Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the most successful and composed captains in the history of the sport. For KL Rahul, being likened to Dhoni in terms of leadership instincts is a testament to his growing stature as a captain and his impact on the teams he leads.

Indeed, KL Rahul is the future of the Indian cricket team. He stands a realistic chance of succeeding Rohit Sharma once the latter hangs up his boots. However, the Manglorean is expected to face stiff competition from his counterpart, Hardik Pandya.
