In a recent interaction, Chennai Super Kings' iconic captain, MS Dhoni, shed light on his post-cricket aspirations, hinting at a stronger connection with the Indian Army. Despite bidding adieu to international cricket in 2020, the cricket legend continues to dazzle in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

After leading Chennai to a triumphant IPL 2023, defeating Gujarat Titans in the final, Dhoni confirmed his commitment to at least one more year on the cricket field. Responding to a fan's inquiry about his post-retirement plans, Dhoni expressed a keen interest in dedicating more time to the Army, an endeavour he had been unable to fully pursue in recent years.

Dhoni Eyes Increased Involvement with Indian Army after Retirement

“I have never thought about it. I am still playing cricket. IPL I am still playing. It will be interesting to see what I do with my life after cricket. I think for sure, I want to spend a bit more time with the Army because the last few years I have not been able to do that,” shared Dhoni, showcasing his commitment to serving the nation beyond the cricket pitch.

Despite Dhoni's retirement from international cricket in 2020, the seasoned cricketer, at the helm of Chennai, has been a stalwart in the IPL, displaying unwavering fitness and consistent performance. Under his captaincy, Chennai clinched their 5th IPL trophy in the previous season and is set to defend their title in IPL 2024.

As speculations loom over the eventual retirement of the Indian cricket legend, Dhoni’s revelation about his post-cricket endeavours adds a poignant touch to his illustrious career. The 40-year-old, who holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army unit of the Parachute Regiment (106 Para TA battalion), expressed a desire to dedicate more time to the Army.

Renowned for his commitment to the nation, Dhoni was conferred with the prestigious accolade by the Indian Army in 2011, achieving the status of a qualified paratrooper in 2015. In 2019, he actively served in Kashmir, fulfilling duties such as patrolling, guarding, and post-duty for 15 days.

As the decorated Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) in the Territorial Army Battalion (Para), Dhoni's bond with the Army remains an integral part of his identity. His impending increased involvement with the Army post-retirement adds another chapter to the cricketer’s legacy of serving beyond the boundary lines.
