KL's Rahul's Lucknow Get More Zen With DDP, Mavi; LSG's Best Playing XI

Lucknow Super Giants will have KL Rahul back as captain ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). They went into the auction with the smallest purse of INR 13.15 crore with six slots left to be filled. 

To find a replacement for Avesh Khan, they bought Shivam Mavi for a hefty sum of 6.4 crores. Lucknow spent INR 2.4 crore for Manimaran Siddharth, who has been picked as a back-up for Ravi Bishnoi. 

Prior to the auctions, they had two foreign pacers in Mark Wood and Naveen Ul Haq. To add more muscle in that department, they have included left-arm English seamer David Willey for 2 crores. 

LSG has played two seasons, so far, in the Indian Premier League. In their debut season, they finished as the runners-up, while they went down to Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator clash last season. 

Heading into their third season, KL Rahul and Co. would be looking no less than holding the elusive IPL trophy. 


Top Order: Quinton de Kock, KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal

Quinton de Kock joined the franchise a bit late last season and Kyle Mayers cashed in wonderfully in his absence. However, the kind of form the South African is in right now, you expect him to open the innings with KL Rahul, followed by Devdutt Padikkal at the number three. 

 

Middle-Order: Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya

The team struggled to find a consistent performer in the middle-order last season but with Padikkal in the top order, they may stick with Ayush Badoni. Nicholas Pooran looked ruthless last season and should continue to act as that lethal force in the middle order. Besides, the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya will give the finishing touches. 


Bowlers: Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, Shivam Mavi, and Mark Wood

Ravi Bishnoi has increased his stature with time as a frontline spin option. With the World Cup taking place right after the IPL, Bishnoi would be looking to make the most of the opportunity at LSG. 

It is safe to say that Mohsin Khan has become the best bet for LSG in the pace department. This time around, Shivam Mavi will be there to compliment him, while seamer Mark Wood will add the much-needed pace, thereby making it a well-rounded attack.
