The final ODI of the three-game series between India and South Africa went on the floor earlier today at Boland Park. The hosts won the toss and invited visitors to bat first.

However, the India side witnessed an initial struggle as openers were sent packing cheaply in the powerplay. Debutant Rajat Patidar was off to a flyer start but couldn’t convert it into a big knock.

Nonetheless, experienced middle-order batter Sanju Samson stepped into the rescue. It wasn't easy for the Rajasthan Royals captain to settle in as he was making a comeback into the national side after a long layoff.

However, Samson eventually picked his shots and built a 100+ run partnership with Tilak Verma. Sanju was watchfully yet aggressive in his approach. He targeted specific bowlers and displayed top-notch game awareness to slam an exceptional century under pressure.

Sanju Samson finished his inning with 108 runs across 114 balls at a healthy strike rate of 94.74. The ton also included six boundaries and three maximums.

That being said, owing to Samson’s marvelous hundred, the Indian team managed to put up an above-par total of 296 to stake a claim at the ODI series.

Sreesanth Sends Special Congratulatory Video For Sanju Samson

Naturally, Sanju Samson heaped applause from across the nation, and a fellow Keralite went on to share a special message to congratulate the batter.

Former Indian fast bowler S Sreesanth, while speaking to Star Sports, referred to Samson’s hundred as a well-deserved knock. While some fans doubt his low strike rate, Sreesanth feels it was in the best interest of the team.

The fast bowler further mentioned that South African conditions are not easy to adapt for any player, let alone someone who is returning to international cricket after a long haul. Thus, Samson’s innings was more of a mature knock.

Lastly, Sreesanth concluded by saying this innings was much needed to boost Samson’s morale and congratulated the latter for his selfless knock.

"Many more hundreds to you," Sreesanth said to Star Sports.
