In a massive development, it has been understood that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), headed by Jay Shah, has decided to host the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. OneCricket understands that the decision has been taken to go forward with the six-nation tournament with or without Pakistan, who are supposed to host it in the first place, between September 2-17.

Interestingly, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been adamant about hosting the Asia Cup in their country for the first time since 2008. However, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have joined forces with the BCCI and chosen not to agree with the PCB, meaning the other Asian nations have also rejected Pakistan's plan for the Hybrid Model.

Meanwhile, OneCricket also understands that the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, whose schedule is soon to be announced, will begin on October 5 with England and New Zealand - last year's finalist - playing the opening encounter. The host nation, India, will commence their campaign against the five-time champions Australia at Chennai.

As per reported earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s top bosses - Roger Binny and Jay Shah - who are in The Oval for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023, have already handed over the World Cup schedule to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Nevertheless, the ICC event schedule is expected to be disclosed anytime soon. However, it would be interesting to watch how PCB as they have threatened the international body and their Indian counterpart of pulling out of the World Cup if India disagree with their Asia Cup terms.
