Sanjay Bangar in a recent episode of 'The Rao Podcast,' expressed his opinion that Virat Kohli could have continued as India's Test captain for a longer period.

Bangar, who has closely worked with Kohli as a coach, felt that Virat Kohli had the potential and leadership qualities to guide the Indian Test team further.

Virat Kohli's tenure as Test captain ended in early 2022, a decision that surprised many in the cricketing world, as he had led India to several significant victories and had an impressive record as a Test captain.

Speaking on 'The Rao Podcast', Bangar said: "I personally feel that he (Kohli) should have continued slightly for longer as a Test captain.

Virat Kohli's Tenure As India's Test captain

Virat Kohli's tenure as India's Test captain was highly successful and is considered one of the best in Indian cricket history. The legendary batter captained India in Test matches from December 2014 to January 2022.

Under his leadership, India won 40 Test matches out of 68, which made him the most successful Indian Test captain.

His win percentage as Test captain is approximately 58.82%, which is the highest among Indian Test captains who have led the team in more than 10 matches.

Another interesting factor in his captaincy tenure was India's significant overseas Test series victories which include India's first-ever Test series win in Australia in 2018-19.

India was virtually unbeatable at home under Kohli, with India winning 24 of the 31 Tests played in India during his captaincy.

His legacy as a Test captain is marked by his aggressive style, fitness culture, and emphasis on fast bowling, which played a crucial role in India's rise to the top of the ICC Test rankings.
