Fast bowler Fatima Sana has been appointed the captain of the Pakistan Women's cricket team for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup, which is scheduled in the UAE in October.

Sana brings prior leadership experience and has captained Pakistan's emerging team and her domestic sides. She also led the national team in a few ODIs during their tour of New Zealand in December 2023. The 22-year-old takes over the captaincy from the seasoned all-rounder Nida Dar.

The squad selected for the T20 World Cup features only one change from the team that competed in the recently concluded Women's Asia Cup.

Sadaf Shamas has been included in the 15-member squad and has replaced wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi, who will travel to the UAE as a reserve player.

The squad includes 10 players who played in the 2023 T20 World Cup. Players like Fatima Sana, Muneeba Ali, Sidra Amin, Omaima Sohail, and Nida Dar have been included in the squad.

Uncapped left-arm pacer Tasmia Rubab is a new addition, while the inclusion of left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal is contingent on her fitness. The PCB has also named a couple of non-travelling reserves.

The tournament was shifted to the UAE due to unrest in Bangladesh. It will take place from October 3 to October 20, 2024.
