Multan Sultans are expected to see major changes in their management ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 11. This comes after the team’s owner, Ali Tareen, announced last month that he was stepping away from the franchise due to ongoing disagreements with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). As a result, the PCB will now take direct control of the team for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed on Sunday, December 28, that Multan Sultans will be run by former cricketers and experienced professionals during PSL 11.

Multan Sultans consider former cricketers for key roles

As the PCB assumes control, several well-known former Pakistan cricketers are being considered for key roles in the team’s management and coaching staff. According to local news outlet Dailyausaf, Abdul Razzaq, Mushtaq Ahmed, and Taufeeq Umar are strong candidates for the coaching setup.

It is being reported that Abdul Razzaq is likely to be appointed as head coach. In addition, Mushtaq Ahmed may serve as the assistant coach, while Taufeeq Umar is expected to take responsibility as the batting coach. These appointments would bring valuable experience and cricketing knowledge to the team.

Ex-PCB chairman likely to join Multan Sultans

Apart from the coaching staff, former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja’s name is also being discussed for administrative duties. However, for PSL 11, the PCB itself will closely manage the overall affairs of Multan Sultans. A final decision about appointing a new owner will only be made after the season concludes.

It is important to note that Ali Tareen’s exit followed a public dispute with the PCB. With all PSL team rights expiring in December and franchises required to re-bid, Tareen claimed the PCB did not share Multan Sultans’ valuation and renewal documents despite repeated requests and even a legal notice. In response, the PCB demanded an apology and warned him he could be barred from bidding. This led to a heated exchange, after which Tareen walked away from the team entirely.

However, the situation may not be completely closed. Mohsin Naqvi has hinted that Tareen could still bid for one of the two new PSL franchises. The PCB plans to sell these teams at an annual fee of 1.3 billion rupees, with the final auction scheduled for January 8.

Interestingly, former Multan Sultans owners have already submitted initial bid documents, keeping their return to the PSL very much possible.
