In the latest development, The England Cricket team has been urged to boycott the Champions Trophy match Vs Afghanistan. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is thinking about not playing against Afghanistan and it is not due to any cricketing reasons.

As per Sky News, Over 160 UK Politicians want England to avoid playing against the Asian side due to Taliban's restrictions on Women's rights. ECB, too, want to boycott the clash, but they feel the matter is not in their hands as the ICC will take the final call and it could also jeopardise their place in the next ICC events.

Earlier, England's famous journalist, Piers Morgan also urged the side to forfeit the match against Afghanistan due to the behaviour of Taliban towards the Afghan Women.

"The @englandcricket men’s team must cancel their match against Afghanistan in the ICC Champions Trophy group stage on Feb 26. The Taliban’s disgusting and ever-worsening oppression of Afghan women, including banning them from all sports, is unconscionable. Time we took a stand." Morgan stated.

Will England follow Australia's footsteps?

For starters, Australia were the first team who decided not to play any bilateral series against Afghanistan. Australia were adamant and skipped two bilateral series against them. However, unlike England, Australia still have no plans to avoid playing against Afghanistan in ICC events.

Can England boycott playing Vs Afghanistan?

England's boycott of Champions Trophy match is likely to have severe consequences. ICC is unlikely to take this action in a good way and could strip the nation from hosting ICC events in the future. ICC stands firm that politics and cricket should not be mixed and if England go ahead with their boycott decision, the governing body is likely to take an action.
