Luck was not on Sri Lanka's wicket-keeper batter, Kusal Mendis' side as he failed to score big for his team in their on-going clash against New Zealand at the Seddon Park. Mendis became a victim on Jacob Duffy who removed him for a cheap score of two runs in a mammoth chase.

The Sri Lankan lions are currently crumbling under collapse after Mendis' wicket. In his last five innings, the 29-year-old has managed to score only one significant score of 46 runs apart from which he has departed for low scores. So far, this Tour of New Zealand is not turning out  to be a positive one for the right-hander.

Duffy Removes Kusal Mendis

In the 4th over, Duffy bowled a hard length delivery around off, the ball pitched in and shaped away from the batter. Kusal Mendis hung back and looked to poke at it however, unfortunately got beaten on the outside edge. While the umpire was unmoved after an appeal for caught behind was made, skipper Mitchell Santner decided to challenge the decision and take a review after a discussion with his teammates.

As the replays suggested, the UltraEdge showed a faint outside edge and the decision was overturned. With this, Duffy provided his team with another crucial blow as he eliminated the danger-man Mendis and picked up his second scalp of the match.

Sri Lankan Lions Crumble Under Pressure As Kiwis Shine

Earlier in the game, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first after the rain-marred affair was reduced to 37 overs. The Charith Asalanka led side picked up wickets however Rachin Ravindra, who scored crucial 79 runs off 63 balls, and Mark Chapman 62 (52) defied all odds as they stitched up 100+ run partnership and put forward a tough total of 255 runs for the visitors to chase.

At the time of writing, Sri Lanka is in deep trouble as they are at 49 runs after losing four key wickets. Kamindu Mendis and Janith Liyanage are trying hard to stabilise the condition and hopefully recover well from the torrid collapse.
