Rohit Sharma, 36, is nearing the end of his career, which has raised doubts over the batter's white-ball future, while Test concerns remain untouched.

Sharma will continue to lead India in the upcoming two-Test series in South Africa and look to become the first Indian skipper to win a red-ball series in the Rainbow Nation.

However, once Sharma does decide to relinquish his position as skipper, India have several options, which include KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah. Former India opener Aakash Chopra has given his views on his two future India Test captaincy candidates, both of whom are talented and bright youngsters.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the cricketer-turned-commentator stated that Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill could lead India in Tests in the long run while emphasising on the injured wicketkeeper's potential.

Here's what Chopra said

"I am talking about extremely long-term, it could be Shubman Gill. I am not talking about now, I am talking about the distant future. It could be Rishabh Pant. Rishabh Pant as a Test cricketer is 24-carat gold. So he could also be the one. He is a game changer. So I will look towards one of these two once Rohit says he is done with Test cricket and that you can appoint someone else as the skipper."

Pant is currently undergoing rehabilitation and has already captained Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with relative success, while Gill, who will travel with India for Test and T20Is, has been named Gujarat Titans captain for IPL 2024.
