BCCI Reveals Reason For Rohit, Kohli & Shami's Non-Selection In ODIs & T20Is For SA Tour

The much-awaited squad for the all-format tour to South Africa has been announced and Rohit Sharma will be leading the Test team, while KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav will be leading the ODI and the T20I teams respectively.

While there were rumours that Rohit would not be leading the Indian side anymore, the squad announcement makes it clear that he will be the captain for the longest format for the World Test Championship cycle 2023-2025.

Meanwhile, the reports suggested that Virat Kohli had requested a break from the white-ball series, which turned out to be true, as both Rohit and Virat have been rested for the ODIs and T20Is. However, their presence in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 is still a question that will prevail in the minds of the Indian fans.

Suryakumar Yadav, who is leading the Indian team in the ongoing T20I series against Australia, will continue to lead against the Proteas as well.

Here's the information that BCCI have shared about Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami:

Mohammed Shami, who was nothing short of impeccable during the World Cup 2023 is reported to be undergoing medical treatment and his availability for the two Test matches will be ascertained later subject to his fitness. Jasprit Bumrah has also been rested for the white-ball leg in order to give chances to the youngsters.

With just a handful of T20I games left for India after this tour, it's tough to say that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will make the cut for the big T20 World Cup 2024.
