India and Australia are gearing up for their upcoming face-off in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. While India is playing New Zealand, the Australian players are participating in their domestic red-ball tournament, the Sheffield Shield, to prepare for the upcoming series.
One of the mainstays of the Australian batting is Steve Smith, who is playing for New South Wales against Victoria. Much to the concern of the Australian management, Steve Smith failed to deliver in the two innings of the match.
Steve Smith struggled to get going in both innings
While Smith scored only three runs off 29 deliveries in the first innings, he did not trouble the scorers at all in the second innings. Smith's dismissal in the second innings made it clear that the veteran batter is struggling to find his rhythm and the ball in the middle of his bat.
Smith's Australian teammate Scott Boland accounted for his wicket in the second innings. It was a good length delivery at the off-stump line that seamed in ever so slightly after pitching. The experienced batter committed a rookie mistake of judging the delivery on the line, resulting in the ball crashing onto his pads and subsequently his demise as he was trapped Leg Before Wicket.
New South Wales are in trouble
Speaking of the match, Victoria batted first and scored 272. In reply, New South Wales managed only 136 before being bundled out in the 54th over. In their second dig of the match, Victoria scored 246 and set a target of 383 runs for the NSW. At the time of writing, New South Wales are stationed at 54/4 in their second innings, needing 329 more to win.
