The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dismissed media reports suggesting financial losses from hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. They instead revealed that the tournament significantly boosted the board’s revenue as they earned INR 3 billion throughout the tournament.

A few days ago, rumours of PCB incurring losses after hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 swirled around the market. According to reports, PCB spent INR 3,320 crore on stadium renovation and other preparations.

But revenue from hosting fees and ticket sales stood at a mere INR 498 crore, which resulted in a whopping reported loss of INR 7,445 crore.

PCB Denies Facing Loss After Hosting Champions Trophy

However, PCB spokesperson Aamir Mir and CFO Javed Murtaza made it clear that the event brought in INR 3 billion in revenue, and there is another INR 3 billion to be accounted for after the audit.

Mir explained that all tournament expenses were covered by the ICC, allowing the PCB to profit through gate money and ticket sales.

"All expenses for the tournament were covered by the ICC.  The PCB generated revenue through gate money and ticket sales. Additionally, after the audit, we expect to receive another Rs 3 billion from the ICC," Mir said via press conference.

He also credited PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for the board’s improved financial health, revealing that PCB’s revenue for the 2023-24 fiscal year had reached INR 10 billion, marking a 40% increase from the previous year.

Moreover, to ensure transparency, the PCB announced that all financial details related to the tournament would be publicly available on its official website.

PCB Slashes Players’ Match Fee For National T20 Cup

In a shocking move, PCB has reportedly slashed domestic players' match fees by a staggering 90% for the upcoming National T20 Cup. According to Geo News, domestic cricketers will now receive only PKR 10,000 per match, a sharp drop from the previous PKR 40,000.

The situation is even worse for reserve players, who will be paid just PKR 5,000 per match after the deduction. This is not a good sign as despite successfully hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, PCB has cited financial constraints and budget restructuring as the main reasons for the cost-cutting measures.
