In a significant development, the Durban's Super Giants (DSG) have announced that England all-rounder Liam Livingstone will join their squad for the remainder of the ongoing SA20 2025–26 season.
He comes in as a replacement for New Zealand star Devon Conway, who has been released from the team after being selected for the New Zealand tour of India.
The SA20 season is currently in full swing, with exciting matches and close competition between the six teams. However, the fact cannot be denied that the Durban's Super Giants have faced a setback after losing Conway at a crucial stage of the tournament.
Devon Conway Leaves SA20 to Join New Zealand Squad
Devon Conway has been named in both New Zealand’s ODI and T20I squads for their upcoming tour of India. The series includes three ODIs and five T20Is.
Due to this international commitment, Conway will no longer be available for the Durban's Super Giants in the remaining SA20 matches.
The ODI series between India and New Zealand is set to begin on January 11, followed by matches on January 14 and January 18. The five-match T20I series will then start on January 21.
In the recent ongoing SA20, the star player made 111 runs in four innings at the strike rate of 173.44 and at an average of 37.00.
Liam Livingstone returns to SA20
Liam Livingstone is no stranger to the SA20 league. The England all-rounder has previously represented MI Cape Town and Pretoria Capitals in earlier editions of the tournament. With his move to the Durban Super Giants, this will be his third team in the SA20.
So far in the league, Livingstone has played 14 matches, scoring 158 runs and picking up four wickets.
While these numbers may not fully reflect his impact, Livingstone is widely known for his explosive batting and ability to change the momentum of a match within a few deliveries. He can also contribute with his off-spin, making him a valuable all-round option.
Durban Super Giants hope for turnaround
The Durban's Super Giants have had a mixed run in the current SA20 season. After playing five matches, the team has managed just one win and suffered two losses, while two games ended with no result.
With eight points and a net run rate of - 1.029, DSG currently sit in fourth place on the points table.
They are behind Joburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the standings. While they are still in contention for the playoffs, the team needs stronger and more consistent performances in the coming games.
Durban's Super Giants will face Pretoria Capitals in their next match on January 7 at Kingsmead, Durban. Interestingly, the previous meeting between the two sides earlier in the season ended with no result.
Durban's Super Giants will hope that Liam Livingstone's arrival can help turn their season around and push them higher up the points table as the SA20 continues.
