Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman recently found himself at the center of a controversy after the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released him from their squad following directions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday.

Notably, he was picked for a large amount of INR 9.20 crore during the IPL mini auction held in Abu Dhabi.

Mustafizur Rahman shines in BPL 2025-26

Soon after leaving the IPL squad, Mustafizur responded in the best possible way through strong performances on the field. He represented Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2025-26) and delivered impressive results.

One of his finest moments came during a match against the Dhaka Capitals at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on January 4.

It is worth mentioning that in the final over, Mustafizur bowled brilliantly and helped his team secure a narrow five-run victory. This performance once again showed his value as a match-winning bowler.

Mustafizur Rahman's teammate reveals his response

Following the match, Bangladesh wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan praised Mustafizur during the post-match press conference. He said that Mustafizur is a world-class bowler who has earned the trust of teammates and fans over a long period. He said,

“For us, Mustafiz is a world-class bowler. He has been proving that for a long time. Everyone has confidence in him. There is nothing more to say about him, everyone is always impressed."

Sohan shared his thoughts on how Mustafizur handled the ongoing situation.

“He is relaxed and at ease. At the same time, there may still be some disappointment (regarding the KKR issue). He deserves what he has now and he deserved even more before. But I think he’s doing just fine," Sohan added.

“Mustafiz might feel bad. He always dreams of giving his best for Bangladesh. To me it seems he is calm," Sohan said.

Bangladesh government bans IPL broadcast

Meanwhile, the situation took a serious turn off the field. The Bangladesh government announced an indefinite ban on IPL telecast and promotion. This decision came after the controversy surrounding Mustafizur’s removal from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad.

An official notice released on January 5 stated that all IPL-related broadcasts, promotions, and event coverage would stop immediately. Authorities said the move was taken in the public interest and approved by the appropriate officials.

Bangladesh refuse to travel to India for T20 World Cup

In addition, the impact reached international cricket plans. The Bangladesh Cricket Board decided not to send the national team to India for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. This decision followed government advice and concerns related to safety. The issue led the board to hold an emergency meeting, followed by a directors’ meeting the next day.

However, according to the reports, the ICC is reportedly working on a new schedule for the mega tournament after the BCB's formal request.
