Sunrisers Hyderabad came into IPL 2025 with a hope that they would continue the fireworks they started in the 2024 season. They were pretty successful with their ultra-aggressive approach in the last edition and reached the final, but this time around they failed miserably, winning just three matches out of their 11 before suspension.
The reason for their poor performance is the failure of their star players to live upto their billing. They did pretty well in the IPL 2025 mega auction as well, buying some key international cricketers to fill the gaps in their squad. However, they had a forgettable season and here are three of those who might be released after IPL 2025.
1. Mohammed Shami
The Indian veteran was bought for 10 Crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction with a hope that he would be their main weapon in the powerplay. He was brilliant in the 2022 and 2023 seasons for GT, picking 20 and 28 wickets respectively. Thus, as an experienced player and a world-class bowler, a lot was expected from him but the bowler picked just six wickets in nine matches, leaking runs at an economy rate of 11.23.

Also, injuries have been a constant problem for Shami and with age not on his side, SRH might look for a more younger bowler in the next year's auction.
Ishan Kishan is a gun-T20 batter and though he has not played for India in the last year or so, but is rated very highly due to his skills and past performance. Thus, SRH bought him for 11.25 Crore, and he responded with a brilliant century in the opening game against RR.

The batter though failed to make an impact in the rest of the tournament, and struggled to find his rhythm. His strike-rate too after that century came down drastically, and his non-performance at number 3, played a big role in the failure of SRH's batting line-up this season. Thus, there are chances that the management might look beyond him for the next season, and could free-up their 11.25 Crore for another batter.
3. Rahul Chahar
Rahul Chahar was bought for 3.20 Crore and with his international experience, and past performances in IPL, the spinner was expected to be a leading spinner for the franchise this season. However, the management trusted Zeeshan Ansari this season, a young leg-spinner from UP, and he did decently as well, picking six wickets.

Chahar bowled only six balls in IPL 2025, and thus there are high chances that SRH might leave him after IPL 2025. The franchise also has Adam Zampa, the third leg spinner, so SRH might opt for an off-spinner or left-arm spinner in place of a leggie.
