The Asia Cup 2025 is set to commence on Tuesday, September 9, and the buzz has reached its peak as eight teams will fight it out for the coveted championship. India will enter the tournament as favourites, and they will be eager to defend their crown that was captured in the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup.
Apart from India, Pakistan will also be a contender to clinch the tournament. The side recently won the UAE tri-nation tournament and will be riding high on confidence after the thumping win.
Before the tournament got underway, the captains from all eight sides gathered for a photo shoot and for a pre-tournament press conference. In the presser, the captains answered questions from journalists, but all eyes were set on the skippers of India, and Pakistan.
Agha Salman vs Suryakumar Yadav: War of words before Asia Cup
The Indian captain was asked about controlling his aggression in the Asia Cup match against Pakistan, and SKY had an interesting answer.
"Aggression (is) always there on field and you can't do without aggression if you want to win," Suryakumar said during the tournament-eve captains' press conference, as quoted by NDTV.
When asked the same question to Salman Ali Agha, the Pakistan captain counter-punched by saying that he wants his players’ natural instincts to flow.
"If someone wants to be aggressive on the field is more than welcome," taking a subtle dig at SKY and the Indian team.
High-stakes in India vs Pakistan battle
India will take on Pakistan on September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The stakes are high as political tension has created a rift between the two teams, and neither of them can afford to lose the contest.
Interestingly, if both India, and Pakistan reach the knockouts, they would face each other once again, and a third meeting is also on the cards if the two sides reach the finale.
