In the first semi-final of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, South Africa had a dream start, and their bowlers showcased a remarkable performance as Afghanistan collapsed for a mere 56 runs on June 27 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.

Afghanistan's batting unit struggled profoundly against South Africa, as they set an undesirable record by achieving the lowest powerplay score in T20 World Cup knockout history, as they managed just 21/5 in the first six overs.

The innings started disastrously with Rahmanullah Gurbaz departing in the first over, followed by Gulbadin Naib in the third over.

South African bowlers Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje not only took wickets at regular intervals but also shattered Afghanistan’s confidence.

After the powerplay, Afghanistan's woes continued as they kept losing wickets under relentless pressure from the South African bowlers.

Let's Take Look At Some Twitter Reaction On Afghanistan's Disappointing Performance

Ultimately, Afghanistan was bundled out for just 56 runs in 11.5 overs, marking a disappointing end to their dream run in the T20 World Cup, which had seen them achieve moments of magic, such as defeating New Zealand, Australia and Bangladesh as they reached a World Cup semi-final for the first time. At the time of writing, South Africa is at 29/1 in 5.2 overs.
