Fans in the Caribbean could soon see the famous green jerseys of the Jamaica Tallawahs back on the field. The GMR Group, co-owners of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, are reportedly in advanced talks to bring the 3-time CPL champions back to life.

The Tallawahs, one of the original franchises when the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) began in 2013, have not played in the last 2 seasons. Their most recent owner, Kris Persaud, returned the team rights to the league in 2023 and later launched the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.

Now, things could change. The Jamaican government, after making new investments at Sabina Park in Kingston, has been pushing for the league’s return. Officials announced earlier this year that they were finalising arrangements to welcome back a CPL team.

Enter the GMR Group. The Indian conglomerate has already established a substantial global cricket portfolio, operating teams such as the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20, Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket, Hampshire in county cricket, and the Southern Brave in The Hundred.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, the GMR group now eyes investment in the Jamaica Tallawahs. The officials from the GMR were said to be in attendance at the CPL 2025 finale, and they are now seen as front-runners to take charge of the Tallawahs.

If this deal goes through, the CPL will expand to a 7-team format, increasing the number of matches and fan engagement.

The Tallawahs have won 3 CPL titles and remain one of the most iconic brands in Caribbean cricket. Their return, backed by the Delhi Capitals’ owners, could spark a new era for both the franchise and Jamaican cricket.

However, these reports are conjecture for now, as neither the Delhi Capitals nor the GMR group have come forward to provide any clarity.
