In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) may impose a heavy penalty on Sahibzada Farhan and Haris Rauf for their controversial gestures during the Asia Cup encounter against India. Recently, the apex body summoned Rauf and Farhan after the BCCI lodged an official complaint against these two Pakistani cricketers.

Rauf, Farhan to be fined heavily for politically motivated gestures: Report

While the cricketing contests between India and Pakistan were massively one-sided, several statements and gestures by players from both sides grabbed the attention. While the entire team, including captain Suryakumar Yadav, refused to shake hands with their arch-rivals, the Pakistani players, particularly Rauf and Farhan, responded to it by performing politically-influenced acts.

Sahibzada Farhan, who took an indirect jibe at the Indian side by performing the Bazooka celebration, dismissed any kind of political influence behind it in his statement to the ICC, reported India Today journalist Nikhil Naz. The in-form Pakistani opener even justified his act by citing legendary Indian players, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni's similar celebrations in the past.

However, later Nikhil Naz provided an update regarding the matter, revealing the ICC will likely sanction Farhan fifty to hundred per cent of his match fees.

Meanwhile, ace speedster Haris Rauf, who mocked the Indian fans by claiming the Pakistani's air force's unverified claim of downing six India jets, is also likely to receive a similar fate for his actions. However, the reputed journalist has claimed that neither of these two players will get a suspension.

As reported earlier, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav might also face the ICC's wrath, as he is likely to lose 15 per cent of his match fees after commenting on the Pahalgam terror attack in the post-match presentation of the India-Pakistan group-stage clash.

Amid all the political noise, the arch-rivals are gearing up to face each other once again in the highly anticipated Asia Cup final on September 28.
