In game number 26 of the T20 World Cup, the West Indies will face New Zealand in a group stage match at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium.

This encounter marks only the second time these teams have met in T20 World Cup history. Their first clash was during the 2012 T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, where the match ended in a tie, leading to a thrilling super over that the West Indies won.

The famous Super Over match between NZ and WI in 2012

The 2012 face-off took place in the Super Eights round at Pallekele. Batting first, the West Indies posted a total of 139 runs in their 20 overs. Key contributions came from Chris Gayle with 30 runs, and Marlon Samuels and Kieron Pollard with 24 and 28 runs, respectively.

For New Zealand, Tim Southee and Doug Bracewell were the standout bowlers, each claiming three wickets.

In response, New Zealand's chase was led by their captain, legendary Ross Taylor, who scored a brilliant 62 off 40 balls. Despite his efforts, the New Zealand team faced a strong bowling performance from the West Indies.

Sunil Narine took three crucial wickets, and Samuel Badree delivered a tight four-over spell, making runs hard to come by.

The match reached to the super over after both teams finished the game in tie. Batting first New Zealand managed to score 17 runs in super over.

However, the West Indies, with Gayle and Samuels batting successfully chased down the target with one ball to spare, securing a memorable victory.
