Champions Trophy In Jeopardy; Karachi Stadium Faces Construction Delays

The upcoming Champions Trophy is facing one hurdles after the another as the mega event is just 50 days away. With the hosting rights now solved and the hybrid model in place, the ICC event now has a fresh issue to deal with.
As per a report by Cricket Pakistan, the construction work of the Karachi Stadium remains incomplete despite a deadline given. The first phase of the upgradation was set to be completed by December 15, but the deadline was extended to December 31, but the construction is yet to be completed as the event hangs in jeopardy.
The renovation work was approved by PCB Chief, Mohsin Naqvi. While the five-storey infrastructure is complete, the fencing is yet to be removed from the ground and the fiishing work on various floors is yet to be completed as the Champions Trophy approaches fast.
As per the PCB Chief, the construction work will stretch till January as the renovation work faces constant delays.
Karachi to host international games before Champions Trophy
In order to see the condition of the new stadium and all its developments, a tri-series between Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa has been planned at the stadium.
The third match of the series on February 12 and the final on February 14 will give a clear cut indication of the stadiums' readiness before all the teams arrive for the Champions Trophy.
The upgrades are done to ensure that PCB meets all the demands of a quality stadium as ICC wants the Karachi Stadium to meet the international standards.
The Champions Trophy will begin on February 19, with the hosts, Pakistan taking on New Zealand.
