India spearhead Jasprit Bumrah made history by achieving the highest-ever rating points by an Indian bowler in the ICC Test Rankings. On Wednesday, Bumrah reclaimed his spot as the world’s top-ranked Test bowler and he also surpassed the long-standing record set by Ravichandran Ashwin.

Bumrah has been in outstanding form in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy and the stellar performances have been the driving force behind his rise. With 30 wickets in just four matches, he has been the standout bowler of the series. His efforts, however, haven’t translated into team success, as India have lost two out of the four matches played so far. Despite this, Bumrah have earned an impressive 907 rating points, breaking Ashwin’s 2016 record of 904 points.

Jasprit Bumrah Breaks Ashwin's Eight Record

Ravichandran Ashwin, who retired from international cricket recently, held the record for eight years. His highest rating came in December 2016 when he reached 904 points. Bumrah’s stellar nine-wicket haul in the Melbourne Test, even in a losing cause, pushed him past Ashwin to set a new benchmark for Indian bowlers.

This performance not only solidified his position as the no. 1 Test bowler but also placed him joint-17th on the all-time list, alongside England legend Derek Underwood.

Bumrah’s achievements go beyond the ICC rankings. He has been shortlisted for two prestigious awards: the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year (Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy) and the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year.

Globally, the all-time ICC Test bowler rankings are led by England’s Sydney Barnes (932 points) and George Lohmann (931 points), with legends like Imran Khan (922) and Muttiah Muralitharan (920) following close behind.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Rises to His Career-Best Test Ranking

Meanwhile, other players have also made significant moves in the rankings. Australia’s Pat Cummins climbed to third in the Test bowler rankings after a strong performance in the fourth Test. India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal rose to a career-best fourth position in the Test batter rankings with 854 points, while Nitish Kumar Reddy jumped 20 places to 53rd after scoring his maiden Test century.
