Marcus Stoinis played a captain's knock to keep Melbourne Stars' hopes alive in their chase against Brisbane Heat in the 19th match of the ongoing Big Bash League at The Gabba.

Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Melbourne Stars restricted Brisbane Heat to a total of 149 runs in their allotted 20 overs. The Brisbane Heat innings was built around a brilliant 77-run knock from Max Bryant, who faced 48 balls, while Paul Walter chipped in with 21 runs off 18 balls.

In reply, the Melbourne Stars had a rocky start. Openers Ben Duckett and Thomas Rogers failed to get going, with Duckett falling for a duck and Rogers managing just six runs. However, Marcus Stoinis, the team's captain, took charge in the middle overs, leading from the front and playing a match-defining knock.

Marcus Stoinis made an impressive 62 runs off 48 balls, a gritty innings that steadied the Stars’ chase. His knock included several beautifully timed boundaries, including an explosive display in the 12th over, where he took charge of Paul Walter's bowling.

The first boundary was a stunning drive off a full toss that Stoinis drilled straight down the ground, clearing his front leg and sending the ball racing to the boundary. The second four came off a slower ball, which Stoinis pulled firmly to deep mid-wicket for a single.

However, it was his exquisite placement that truly stood out, a delicate cut shot from the next delivery, guiding the ball between short third man and backward point for yet another boundary.

The Stars’ chase, despite their early setbacks, was firmly under Stoinis' control, and with his calm yet aggressive approach, they kept the required rate under control as they marched toward the target. At the time of writing, Melbourne Stars won the match 5 wickets.
