An International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation has arrived in Karachi to examine PCB’s preparations for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The National Stadium in Karachi is set to host three matches of the tournament, including the opening fixture between New Zealand and hosts Pakistan.

The Champions Trophy itself is slated to commence from February 19 onwards and will run till March 9 across four different venues in Pakistan and UAE.

ICC delegation to conduct inspection

An ICC delegation has once again visited Pakistan to assess the progress of PCB’s preparation of venues for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The delegation will be conducting a detailed inspection of the construction work of various sections of the stadium.

Apart from the three matches that have been allocated to the National Stadium in Karachi, the venue will also be hosting the opening ceremony of the 2025 Champions Trophy.

The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi are the remaining two Pakistani venues that have been allocated some profile fixtures of the tournament. It is worth noting that the construction work at Karachi’s National Stadium is facing several delays, and it has already breached the deadline twice.

While Pakistan was slated to be the sole hosts of the 2025 Champions Trophy, BCCI’s reluctance in sending the Indian team across the border over prevailing geo-political tensions prompted the PCB to co-host the eight-team event with the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the UAE.

Interestingly, mere days prior to the launch of the 2025 Champions Trophy, Pakistan will also be hosting a rare ODI tri-series involving New Zealand and South Africa. Scheduled to be played between February 8 and February 14, the series will mark the first tri-nation tournament to be hosted by Pakistan in 20 years.
