In a recent development, the ICC is working behind the scenes to convince the PCB to adopt and accept hybrid model for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. The ICC is making this effort after India’s firm refusal to travel to Pakistan for mega tournament, citing safety concerns.

Back channel Talks On To Convince PCB For Hybrid Model

According to recent reports, the ICC has reportedly used back channels to convince the PCB that a hybrid model, that involves matches in Pakistan and a neutral venue, is the most pragmatic solution to ensure the tournament's smooth execution.

Earlier this week and even before, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi has been vocal about his stand on hosting the entire tournament in Pakistan. He has firmly stated that PCB will make no changes and and will host the entire event in Pakistan. PCB chief has also urged the ICC to release the tournament schedule promptly.

Sources indicate that tensions have already escalated due to the delay in finalising the tournament schedule. Originally expected to be announced on November 12, and later postponed to November 19, the schedule now faces further delays due to unresolved disagreements.

Why It Is Important For Pakistan To Host Champions Trophy 2025?

The BCCI had firmly stated that the Indian team would not travel to Pakistan due to safety concerns. Even according to several reports, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been identified as the second host nation, where India would play all their matches.

The PCB, however, is resistant to the idea and stated that they have already made significant financial investments in preparation for the tournament. The board fears further financial losses if the Champions Trophy is hosted only partially in Pakistan. So, to conclude by hook or crook, PCB needs to host the tournament entirely in Pakistan.
